Heading topic: Evaluation of the Lady Gaga Video on the French Revolution

1. In a well formulated paragraph evaluate how watching the video and reading the lyrics increased your understanding of the major events of the French Revolution. Provide evidence from the video or lyrics.

Watching the video and reading the lyrics increased my understanding of the major events of the French Revolution first in the beginning of the song they stated the reason why they needed a revolution like "Inequality. The relics of feudalism" and "Three Estates ensured nobles favoritism." Then it seems like the singer is trying to persuade whoever is listening, to start a revolution "You and me, let's start a revolution." to come and join and be part of the revolution, which shows how much support and people they need to make the revolution. When the started the revolution with events like, "No feudalism, Declaration of Rights. August decrees. Swept aside the two estates. Women of Paris march down to Versailles." which has made other countries think about their revolution, "Europe frightened by our revolution."/"Tension heightened by our revolution." Then at the end of the song it shows the results of the events they did during the revolution, "Catholicism is dead."/"Notre Dame became a temple of treason."/"A new calender with months named for times and seasons." But then the results of the events during the revolution, didn't seem like the end of the revolution there seemed to be more problems like "Directory and legislature filled with corruption."/ "Monarchists and wars would even cause more disruption." it seemed like they need help and help came to them, "Napoleon's here!" This made me understand more about like cause and effects of the revolution and it seemed like a continuing problem for France and their revolution.

2. Identify and explain the lines of the song that describe the causes of the revolution

"Inequality. The relics of feudalism" and "Three Estates ensured nobles favoritism." - They were not equally represented as the other estates, which are the 1st and 2nd estate, because the 3rd are always outnumbered by vote, which doesn't make sense because they take most of the population in France. Also they wanted to be treated the same as the 1st and 2nd estate, they peasants are "paying too much" for taxes while the other estates aren't and its just making the country more poor.

3. Identify and explain lines that describe changes caused by the Revolution

"Catholicism is dead."/"Notre Dame became a temple of treason."/"A new calender with months named for times and seasons." These are the changes from the people of France and these are the changes they wanted. So they created "A new constitution." which gave the king a "limited monarchy" because the king was giving too much power for the upper classes with their beliefs, which wasn't really fair if only a few people believe in it and then there's a big population of people who don't agree with it but don't have the power to change that belief.

4. Which part of the video did you like the best and why?

The part that I like about the video is that it feels like a song that gives me a memorization of the events that happened during the French Revolution, it would be something I would use if I have to remember the "causes of revolution" and the "changes caused by the revolution"
